The Farmers National Bank of Emlenton recently donated to the AmeriCorps Seniors Project at Community Action, Inc. "Farmers National Bank of Emlenton encourages giving back to the community and supporting local endeavors benefitting our citizens and enhancing their quality of life," noted Samantha Swigart, Retail Banking Administrator. Cheryl Shellhammer, Community Action, Inc.'s AmeriCorps Seniors Director, explained "AmeriCorps Seniors are volunteers, age 55 or older, who remain active in our communities sharing their skills and talents to help others. They provide assistance to aging seniors, low income families, and children by delivering meals, assisting at food pantries, and preparing federal, state, local tax returns, and property tax/rent rebates. Seniors also work to reclaim local streams and trails; create lap covers, mittens, and other warm coverings; and provide friendly check-in calls through the Phone-a-Friend project." "AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer opportunities are available through more than 50 stations located in Clarion, Jefferson, and Indiana counties. Stations include Area Agencies on Aging, local food pantries, VITA tax preparation sites, hospitals, libraries, faith-based organizations, proprietary healthcare facilities, and non-profit organizations," added Ms. Shellhammer.
