Community Action, Inc. Names JEFFERSON County Senior Corps-RSVP December Volunteer of the Month

Community Action, Inc. announced Helen Whitesell of Punxsutawney was selected to be the Jefferson County Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer of the Month for December. Helen has been a member of the Senior Corps-RSVP since June 1996 and is currently volunteering for the Clearfield-Jefferson American Red Cross Bloodmobiles, and for Jefferson County Area Agency on Aging’s Pine Street Senior Center. Helen has volunteered for many organizations over the past 16 years including: Community Action, Inc.; Punxsutawney Historical Society; Punxsutawney Hospital; and the American Cancer Society. When asked why she volunteers, Helen stated, "I started volunteering after my retirement from the Punxsutawney Area School District, a job which I just loved. Although I have cut back on my volunteering over the years, I have absolutely enjoyed every part of it and helping others. I enjoy being with people and my friends, plus volunteering gets me out of the house.” When Helen is not volunteering she enjoys crocheting, making scrapbooks for her grandchildren, collecting Groundhog Ty Beanie Babies, and spending time with her family and friends. Helen is a member of the Punxsutawney Career Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR), Punxsutawney Historical Society, and the First Baptist Church in Punxsutawney.
