Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

SSVF Background

SSVF is funded through a U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs grant awarded to the Lawrence County Community Action Partnership who formed a grantee coalition to serve the following counties: Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Jefferson, Lawrence, and Mercer.

Community Action, Inc.'s  goal is to serve a minimum of 26 Veterans from October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014.

This project serves Clarion and Jefferson Counties.

What is SSVF?

  • Provides assistance to homeless Veterans and their families, or those at risk of homelessness
  • Uses the “Housing First Model” focused on locating permanent rental housing, then addressing other household needs with referrals to Veteran Affairs and community supports
  • Provides short-term assistance and case management with a long term goal of housing stability and economic independence

SSVF Eligibility Criteria

  • Veteran: “A Veteran is a single person or a family in which the head of household, or the spouse of the head of the household, is a Veteran.” Veteran must provide proof through DD Form 214 “Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.”
  • Housing Status: Homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness
  • Income:  At or below 50% area median income (AMI) based on household size

What Does SSVF Offer?

  • Assistance and connection to Veteran Affairs and community supports. The Veteran creates a housing stability plan with the case manager based on individual/family needs. 
  • The case manager maintains a minimum of monthly contact with each Veteran and family to monitor goal obtainment and determine outcomes.
  • Temporary Financial Assistance funds may be available to help pay security and utility deposits, rent, and utilities.
