In support of Pennsylvania’s Month of the Young Child Literacy Campaign, Kolaya Horne, Tobacco Free Coordinator from the Armstrong-Indiana Drug and Alcohol Commission, read "Just You and Me" by Sam McBratney to children at the Sligo Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts Center. This book demonstrates the importance of a bond between a parent and child to make them feel safe and special. This is the seventh year Community Action Inc.’s Local Education and Resource Network (LEARN) Project organized readings throughout Clarion and Jefferson Counties during the month of April. Each of this year’s 35 readings at Head Start Centers, PA Pre-K Counts Classrooms, Keystone STARS and private preschools, emphasize the importance of reading early and often to children and engaging them in conversation and other activities involving books. Community Action, Inc.’s LEARN Project offers a multitude of resources for parents who want to help their children prepare for kindergarten. For more information contact Sheri N. Price, Early Care and Education Coordinator, at 814-938-3302, ext. 204 or via email to [email protected].
