|Community Action, Inc. announced Marcella Johnston of Homer City was selected to be the Indiana County Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer of the Month for May.|
Marcella has been a member of the Senior Corps-RSVP since January 2007 volunteering for the Trinity United Methodist Church Happy Homemakers where her duties include making cookies for the Red Cross Blood Mobiles and collecting hats and mittens for the Salvation Army's Treasures for Children Project. She also volunteers for the Homer City United Methodist Church yearly Easter Egg fundraiser and this year helped make over 65,000 chocolate covered Easter eggs.
When asked why she volunteers, Marcella stated, "I enjoy volunteering. It feels good to be able to help the community and those in need. I wish I was able to do more.”
When Marcella is not volunteering, she enjoys reading, playing bingo at the Homer City Senior Social Center, playing cards and spending time with her family and her husband of 66 years Alec “Cotton” Johnston.
