Jeffeson County Senior Corps-RSVP January Volunteer Station of the Month

Community Action, Inc. announced the Toys for Tots Project was selected to be the Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer Station of the Month for January. Toys for Tots has been a Senior Corps-RSVP Station since November 2005. Samantha Schrecengost, Senior Corps-RSVP Director and Jefferson County Toys for Tots Coordinator, states, "We could not operate the Toys for Tots Project without the support of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Ebensburg Unit, volunteers, the H.L. Libby Corporation, local donors, and Community Action, Inc. staff." Senior Corps-RSVP recognized seven volunteers for their years of service with RSVP: Carol Knarr, fourteen years; Alice Himes, Linda Jewell, and Orvis Newcome, twelve years; Melva McGranor, nine years; Peggy Brown, eight years; and Melva "Pokey" Wolfe, one year. The volunteers shared, "This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and help children during the holiday season." Alice Himes and Orvis Newcome added, " We've always enjoyed helping others and being around people." Toys for Tots has many volunteer opportunities available to those looking to help the community during the holiday season including assisting with registration, box distribution and collection, fundraising, and distribution activities. Toys for Tots served 184 families consisting of 477 Jefferson County children during the 2017 holiday season. Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP is very proud to have the Toys for Tots Project as a Volunteer Station.
