Community Action, Inc. Names Clarion County Senior Corps-RSVP September Volunteer Station of the Month

Community Action, Inc. announced the Clarion County Area Agency on Aging's Rimersburg Senior Social Center was selected to be the Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer Station of the Month for September. The Center has been a Senior Corps-RSVP Station since July 1980. Kelly Fair, Center Director since 1995 states, "This is a gathering place for individuals age 60 and older to socialize and do activities. People think we are a nursing home or personal care facility, none of the individuals reside here. We have daily activities such as crafts, games, and lunch. We also offer day trips, bus trips, puzzle competitions, and much more fun." The Senior Social Center, located at 7363 Route 68 in Rimersburg is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Anyone over the age of 60 is welcome to stop in for fun and laughter. Donna Guntrum laughs, "I enjoy doing my own thing around the Center; but, mostly it gets me away from the dog." Phyllis Johnson states, "I have been active here for more than 23 years; the family and fellowship is what I love about coming to the Center. I've worn out five cars with all my trips to the Center." Genevieve Lerch adds, "I enjoy being here with the other people." Senior Corps-RSVP recognized twelve volunteers for their years of service with RSVP: Ellen Kilgore and Genevieve Lerch, sixteen years; Phyllis Johnson, eleven years; Donna Guntrum, ten years; Cecil Craig Jr., Helen Craig, and Audrey Schons, nine years; Judy Bashline, seven years; Virginina Karman, four years; Clair Bashline and Eilene Say, two years; and Karen Guntrum, one year. The Rimersburg Senior Social Center has many volunteer opportunities available to those looking for something to fill their spare time, help out in the community, or become more sociable. The Center is always seeking volunteers to assist with home delivered meals, serving and clean-up from daily lunches, special events, entertainment, decorations, janitorial and maintenance tasks, as well as holiday events, and crafts with children. Ellen Kilgore states, "I enjoy being around the people and working in the kitchen." Audrey Schons shared, "The Center was a life saver to me when my husband passed. I was lost and didn't know what to do, I started attending activities at the Center to fight depression and help with the grieving process. It gives you a reason to get out of bed; if you're not volunteering, what else is there to do?" Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP is very proud to have the Rimersburg Senior Social Center as a Volunteer Station. This Center illustrates the true spirit of volunteerism and is dedicated to making a difference in people's lives. If you are age 55 or over and interested in utilizing your skills and talents to improve our community and change people's lives, become a member of Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP.
