Seeking Volunteers for Veteran Transportation Program

Community Action, Inc. is proud to announce the Jefferson County Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) as a new Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer Station. Transportation in rural Western Pennsylvania continues to be a barrier for Veterans residing in Jefferson County. Now, through a collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the Jefferson County Commissioners, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Jefferson County Veterans can receive assistance with transportation to medical appointments at VA Centers located in DuBois and Altoona, PA.

Volunteer drivers are needed Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The vehicle and volunteer training will be provided by the County and volunteers must pass a driver background check and medical clearances. If you are interested in volunteering and looking to serve the 3,700 Veterans residing in Jefferson County, please contact Samantha Schrecengost, Senior Corps-RSVP Project Director, at 814-938-3302, ext. 236 or toll-free 1-800-648-3381 or via e-mail [email protected]

Unfortunately, ambulatory service is not available at this time and transportation is not available for Veterans with catheters, oxygen, and/or wheelchairs; however, other transportation options may be available and can be discussed. If you are a Jefferson County Veteran and need medical transportation, please contact Rick Murray, Veteran Affairs Director, at 814-849-1529.

Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP is honored to have the Jefferson County Department of Veteran Affairs as a Volunteer Station. If you are age 55 or over and interested in utilizing your skills and talents to improve our community and change people's lives, become a member of Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP Project.

There are many exciting and rewarding volunteer opportunities waiting for you!
