Community Action, Inc. Names Clarion County Senior Corps-RSVP March Volunteer Station of the Month

Community Action, Inc. announced the Clarion County Historical Society was selected to be the Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer Station of the Month for March. The Historical Society has been a Senior Corps-RSVP station since January 1982. Mary Lea Lucas, Historical Society Executive Director, considers her work very fulfilling. Mary Lea states, “We are always seeking new volunteers to help with tours, research, exhibits, and special events. It is a very interesting and fun place to volunteer." Senior Corps-RSVP recognized three volunteers for their years of service with the Clarion County Historical Society: Harry Nulph, Jr., 17 years; Karen Slack, nine years; and Robert Slack, nine years. Harry stated, “I enjoy meeting people and doing research at the Historical Society”. Karen added, “I enjoy being here and helping Mary Lea in the office.” Both Harry and Karen have helped with special events held at the Historical Society such as a wake honoring Thomas Sutton, Victorian tea parties, bridal showers, and even a wedding. The Clarion County Historical Society is open to the public and is a great resource for family history and genealogy. "Genealogy is the number one hobby in America,” according to Mary Lea. For those interested in networking and learning more about genealogy, the Historical Society offers the "Genealogy Roundtable" the first Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m. from March through December at the Sutton Ditz Museum in Clarion, PA. The Historical Society also plans to open a resale shop where they will sell books, local artist pieces, household items, antiques, and tools. Mary Lea empathically states, "No artifacts from the museum will be available for purchase." Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP is very proud to have the Clarion County Historical Society as a volunteer station. This Organization illustrates the true spirit of volunteerism and is dedicated to making a difference in people's lives. If you are age 55 or over and interested in utilizing your skills and talents to improve our community and change people's lives, become a member of Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP. Call Samantha Schrecengost, Senior Corps-RSVP Project Director, at 814-938-3302, ext. 236 or toll-free 1-800-648-3381 or via e-mail [email protected] There are many exciting and rewarding volunteer opportunities waiting for you!
