Community Action, Inc. Names Indiana County Senior Corps-RSVP February Volunteer Station of the Month

Community Action, Inc. announced the Indiana County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Senior Environment Corps (PaSEC) was selected to be the Senior Corps-RSVP Volunteer Station of the Month for February. PaSEC has been a Senior Corps-RSVP station since March 1998. PaSEC's Indiana County Chapter was formed in 1997 with a mission to increase opportunities for Indiana County residents who are 55 and older to use their expertise and environmental ethic to improve the environment by collecting physical, chemical, and biological data. PaSEC President, John Ferraro, states, β€œ45 years after the Clean Water Act, there are still miles of polluted streams in the area.” The local PaSEC Chapter is sponsored by Aging Services, Inc. of Indiana County and Nature Abounds. They are always seeking additional volunteers to participate in activities such as planting trees, cleaning up roads and trails, data logging, and monitoring treatment systems. PaSec volunteers work closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Game Commission, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Indiana County Conservation District. PaSEC Secretary, JoAnne Ferraro, states, β€œThis is a great opportunity to meet people who share your same interests.” PaSEC meets the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. at Aging Services, Inc., 1005 Oak Street, Indiana, PA 15701. Senior Corps-RSVP recognized 14 volunteers for their years of service with the Indiana County Chapter of PaSEC: Carol Cummins, 15 years; John Dudash, 17 years; Sandy Dudash, 15 years; John and JoAnne Ferraro, 16 years; Doris Hicks, six years; Paul Hicks, seven years; Linda Jones, three years; Bob Lankard, 13 years; Nancy Lezaek, 14 years; Tom Miller, 13 years; Cindy Rogers, eight years; John Somonick, 14 years; and Carl Trout, 15 years. Community Action, Inc.'s Senior Corps-RSVP is very proud to have the Indiana County Chapter of Pennsylvania Senior Environment Corps (PaSEC) as a volunteer station.
